FOONA Stories · Chapter 01 · Floods
When the water came,
the community reported back.
Cape Town residents turned their phones into a real-time flood damage map. In the first 72 hours they logged what formal response teams would have missed for weeks.

How it worked
FOONA built the application in under 48 hours once the floods began. Residents open it on WhatsApp, pin damage on a map, add a photo, and submit — no app install, no training, no sign-up form.
Each pin carries a verified GPS, a timestamp, and a photograph. Response teams, journalists, and insurers see what's actually on the ground, hour by hour — not what was true at the last official survey.
This is what FOONA does: production-grade data-collection applications that run in real communities, deployed in days, generating insights that would otherwise take weeks of surveys to approximate.

Could this work for your mission?
If your organisation needs ground-truth data from a specific community — damage mapping, needs assessments, service delivery audits, infrastructure surveys — we can build it with you. Tell us what you're trying to understand.
